Acupuncture comes from traditional Chinese medicine. Very fine, sterile, single-use needles are inserted at selected points on the body and left in place while you rest. Many people use it alongside massage to help with muscle tension and general well-being.
What to expect
Your first visit starts with questions about your health and what you hope to address. Insertion usually feels like a light tap or brief pinch; once the needles are in place, most people feel relaxed or pleasantly heavy. Needles typically stay in for 20 to 30 minutes.
Good to know
- Please tell us if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder or a pacemaker, or feel anxious about needles.
- Eat a light meal beforehand; avoid coming in on an empty stomach.
