Cupping

Silicone or glass cups create gentle suction that lifts the skin and underlying tissue, a technique many clients use to release tight, stubborn areas.

Cupping uses cups placed on the skin to create suction. Instead of pressing into the muscle like most massage techniques, the suction gently lifts the skin and underlying tissue. Cups may be left in place for a few minutes or glided over the skin with oil.

What to expect

Most people describe cupping as a pulling or stretching sensation rather than pain. Your therapist often combines cupping with hands-on massage, focusing on areas such as the back, shoulders and legs, and adjusts the level of suction to your comfort.

Good to know

  • Cupping often leaves round, bruise-like marks. They are usually painless and fade within a few days to a week — plan around events where the marks may show.
  • Please tell us if you take blood thinners, bruise easily, are pregnant, or have skin conditions in the treatment area.
